Last year, my blood pressure had gotten out of control and my cardiologist said frankly, “medicine for the rest of your life or lose fifty pounds.” Em and I joined Crossfit Goat the next day. Last month, my doctor told me I don’t have to come back. Today is our 1 year anniversary and we couldn’t be more grateful to the amazing coaches at Crossfit Goat and its incredible community of members.
CROSSFIT SUCCESS STORIES
A lifetime of thanks to the CrossFit Goat team. *Results may vary from person to person.
I started CrossFit in August of 2012. I had been going to a regular gym on and off for years and never really saw a change in my body so I decided to give CrossFit Goat a try. The first few weeks were so hard for me but the coaches and other members were so patient and motivating. Everyone was so supportive and non-judgmental. Three years later I’m still here and love it! It has completely changed my life. I have always struggled with depression, anxiety and weight. Working out every day has helped me so much with these problems. Before, I used to think food was my enemy. I have now learned how food fuels your body and that you do not need to starve yourself to lose weight.
This is the healthiest I have ever been physically and mentally! I have also made some great friends at the Goat. It really is my second home. Everybody supports one another and it is one big family. *Results may vary from person to person.
I said that I would never do CrossFit. After 35 years I should know better than to say never. When I first walked into Goat, I was at an all-time low. I battled infertility for 3 years and was just recovering from months of IVF followed by my third pregnancy loss in a row. I was emotionally and physically exhausted, overweight, and hating my body inside and out. I wanted to do something that would make me feel better and I wanted to punish my body for betraying me. I’m not a stranger to working out. I’ve had gym memberships since I was a teenager, but I always cycled in and out and lost my motivation. I would starve myself to lose weight and always gain it back at some point. My husband talked me into trying a community WOD on a Saturday morning, and it was hard, but it made me forget about everything else for an hour. And the people were so nice, and encouraging and helpful! It is different than any other “gym” atmosphere I have ever been in and I was hooked. When I started, I could not do a single strict pushup, or an air squat, and I could not run 200 meters without being totally winded. During Foundations, the coach told me that I should only come twice a week to start, and during my first class the coach had to cut me off mid-workout because I was struggling so much.
I kept reminding myself to check my ego at the door, and trust the coaching because everyone has to start somewhere. It is not easy to feel like you are always in last place, but if you show up and do the work, everything will change.
It has been 8 months and CrossFit has changed me. I have lost 26 pounds, but I don’t even care about that number any more. I care about being strong, living well and performing better every day. I care about being a good example for my 5-year old. I work out 6 days a week and still have the most energy I’ve had in my entire life. At some point along the way, I stopped feeling angry about what my body can’t do and started admiring everything it does every day. I have what I earn, and I am grateful that I have the ability to do the work.
I can do a lot of strict pushups, I can back squat 145 lbs., I can run a mile in 8 minutes and then keep on working out, I can bench press 100 lbs., I can Clean 105 lbs. and the list goes on and on. So much can change when you start to believe in yourself.
I have met incredible people whom I admire so much for so many different reasons. The Goats are like a family, and if you don’t come in for a few days, someone is going to be checking up on you. We have amazing coaches with so much knowledge and experience to share and they are truly invested in seeing everyone improve and exceed their goals. My improvement is my own, but the Goat community made it possible. Today I am my Greatest of All Time, but tomorrow I will be even better. *Results may vary from person to person.
